Acceptable Use Policy

1. What this policy is

This policy sets out what you may and may not do with PixLab Studio (PixLab for short). It forms part of our Terms of Service, which require you to follow it (Terms §8).

Most of what follows will not affect you. If you are enhancing family photographs, restyling holiday pictures or making something to print and put on a wall, you will never come close to any of these limits. We set them out because we have to be clear about where they are, not because we expect you to test them.

Some of these rules are ours. Others are imposed on us by the companies whose AI models power the Service, and we cannot grant you permissions we do not have ourselves.

2. Content that is never permitted

There are no exceptions to this section, and no appeal against enforcement of it. You must not use the Service to create, upload, or attempt to create:

• Any sexual content that shows, depicts, or appears to depict a child — including wholly artificial or AI-generated depictions, or any content that sexualises a person under 18. This includes altering an image of a child to make it sexual.
• Intimate or sexual images of a real, identifiable person who has not agreed to it. This includes creating them by altering an ordinary photograph.
• Content promoting or facilitating terrorism, violent extremism, or mass violence.
• Content promoting human trafficking, exploitation, or sexual violence.

We report material of this kind to the appropriate authorities where the law requires it.

3. Content that is not permitted

You must not use the Service to create or upload:

Content that attacks or endangers people

• Hate speech, or content attacking people because of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or any comparable characteristic.
• Symbols and imagery of hate movements, including Nazi and white-supremacist imagery.
• Content that harasses, bullies, threatens, stalks, or defames someone.
• Content encouraging self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating, or giving instruction in them.
• Extreme gore — mutilation, torture, or cruelty to people or animals.

Content that deceives

• Impersonating a real person or organisation.
• Fraudulent material, fake identity or official documents, counterfeit goods, or forged qualifications.
• Spam, or content designed to create false engagement.

Content that harms systems or safety

• Malicious code.
• Material assisting with weapons capable of mass casualties, or with dangerous biological or chemical research.

Content that infringes other people's rights

• Images you do not own and have no permission to use.
• Images of identifiable people who have not agreed to it (see also Terms §8 and §9.2).
• Content that misuses someone's biometric information — their face, voice, or other physical characteristics — to identify them without their agreement.

Decisions about people

• You must not use the Service, or anything it produces, to make automated decisions about individuals — including decisions about employment, credit, housing, insurance, or access to services.

Terms §9.3 sets out two further limits that come from the same source: you may not use outputs to train other AI models, or to build a public image bank or stock library.

4. Being honest that an image was made with AI

You may use the images you create freely, including commercially (Terms §9.1). What you must not do is use them to deceive.

Specifically, you must not present an AI-generated or AI-edited image as an unaltered photograph, or as the work of a human artist, in order to mislead someone — for example in news reporting, in evidence, in a claim, or to establish that an event happened.

Using AI images in advertising, on products, in art, or for your own enjoyment is entirely fine. Nothing here requires you to label a stylised portrait or an enhanced family photograph.

We add provenance information to the images the Service produces, recording that they were made with AI and how. You must not strip or falsify it.

5. Why a request is sometimes refused

The Service is built on AI models supplied by other companies. Each applies its own safety filters, and those filters run before we see the result.

This means a request is occasionally refused when nothing is wrong with it. Filters work on appearances and they are imperfect: an ordinary photograph can trip one. A refusal is not an accusation, and it does not count against your account.

Different tools use different models, so a request refused by one tool may work in another. If a refusal blocks something you legitimately want to do, contact us at [email protected] and we will help if we can.

Tokens are never charged for a request that fails. Where a charge has already been taken it is returned automatically.

6. If you break these rules

We would rather resolve a problem than close an account, and in almost every case a conversation is enough.

Where it is not, we may:

• ask you to stop, or to remove something;
• put your account into read-only mode, so that you keep access to your images and your balance but cannot create anything new, while we look into it;
• suspend or close your account for serious or repeated breaches.

A person makes these decisions, not an algorithm. Automated systems may flag an account for review, but no account is restricted, suspended, or closed without someone examining it.

We will tell you what we have done and why, unless the law prevents us. If you think we have got it wrong, reply and say so, and a different person will review it. We will not treat an honest mistake as misuse.

Section 2 is the exception: breaches of it lead to immediate closure and, where the law requires, a report to the authorities.

What happens to your tokens if your account is closed is set out in the Terms and the Refund & Cancellation Policy. Closure for breach of this policy does not remove any refund right you already have.

7. Reporting something

If you believe content on the Service is illegal, or that someone is using PixLab in breach of this policy, contact us at [email protected].

Tell us what you saw and where, and we will review it and tell you what we decided and why.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy — because the law changes, because our providers' terms change, or because we encounter something we had not anticipated.

Where a change materially affects what you may do, we will give you notice before it takes effect and tell you what has changed. Changes are not retrospective.
